Orienteering

Activity Hanmer has set up an awesome Orienteering course in the Heritage Forest, Hanmer Springs.

Take up the challenge – great exercise, lots of initiative and awesome teamwork needed.

Activity Hanmer is privileged to be able to offer a range of Orienteering courses on a wonderful 5 colour, modern Orienteering map in the Hanmer Heritage Forest.

This is probably the one time on camp that the students have to take real responsibility for themselves and each other.

They are split down into small groups of 3 and are given 1.5 hrs to have a go. It's a Score Event and the students have to plan the route. There are penalty points incurred if you are late! Prior to setting off the students have a detailed briefing on the whole event.

Students can walk to the start from the Forest camp or a 10 minute drive to the start from the AA Camp. This activity normally lasts 2.5 hrs and surprisingly is one of the most popular with the students.

Each team gets a compass, stopwatch, pencil, score sheet and a map each.
